Unique position that applies research to practical operations settings. The position requires a broad understanding of livestock husbandry and red meat processing. It will be involved directly with multiple projects concurrently. Strong communication skills and technical acumen are essential as this position requires a wide degree of both internal and external communication through various interfaces. They will work collaboratively with various departments and interact closely with beef operational facilities within the Tyson Fresh Meats Business Unit.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Coordinate accurate yield testing and cost-to-produce with Operations, Sales, Accounting and Food Safety, Quality Assurance (FSQA).
Support technical components of beef carcass merchandising and meat engineering relative to the carcass composition, yield enhancement, and gross margin improvement.
Support development of innovation and process changes throughout the supply chain from live animal, harvesting and further processing to enhance yield, quality, food safety and operational objectives.
Develop and write relevant research protocols as well as composing resulting manuscripts.
Work collaboratively within a technical environment to develop and validate programs.
Interpret current scientific literature relevant to live animal, processing, meat science, food safety and quality.
Keep current with technology developments and makes recommendations for inclusion in manufacturing or live animal processes.
Understand the science of innovate technologies and how it could be applied to bring value to the business as well as the limitations.
Work cross functionally.
Qualifications:
EDUCATION: Preferred MS or Ph.D. in Animal or preferably Meat Science with study emphasis in red meat beef and pork.
EXPERIENCE: 3 plus years with diverse research experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
COMPUTER SKILLS: Competent knowledge of computers in reviewing and analyzing data, conducting literature searches.
SUPERVISORY: None
TRAVEL: 12 or more domestic trips per year
