AMSA is an individual membership organization of meat scientists representing major university research and teaching institutions and meat processing companies in the United States and internationally. Our members conduct basic and applied research and education programs in muscle growth and development, meat quality, food safety, processing technology and consumer and marketing issues relevant to the international meat industry.
AMSA is currently seeking one student that meets our qualifications (see below). The deadline for applications is April 5, 2023.
Position: Summer Internship Location: Remote, intern will attend the 2023 Reciprocal Meat Conference (RMC) in St. Paul, Minnesota, June 22-28, 2023 Time Period: May –August 2023 Scholarship: $1500/month
Intern General Responsibilities:
Student will be assigned to help many different AMSA staff members with a variety of meetings and events at the RMC. AMSA staff members will direct the student in specific duties at meetings and events.
Student should be prepared for a wide range of responsibilities, including distribution of handouts, copying materials, overseeing committee meetings, setting up the student silent auction, setting up career fair booths, and other general duties as required.
Student will assist with meeting the needs of attendees with the help of AMSA staff members. One of AMSA’s goals is to ensure the comfort of attendees at the RMC.
Student will assist staff with development and maintenance of the meeting app, youth events, and other tasks as needed.
Student will assist in capturing and producing videos for the AMSA video podcast and youth presentation series. Work with AMSA staff on creating/updating online programs, trainings, and collaborations.
This AMSA internship will provide an excellent opportunity to network with people throughout the meat industry.
Intern will assist the AMSA staff in promoting AMSA through traditional media outlets, social media, and at the annual RMC. Other tasks include drafting internal news stories, scientific white papers, fact sheets, and web related projects as they arise.
Qualifications:
Must be an AMSA member
Excellent writing, research, and interpersonal communication skills
Must have own computer for assignments
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe applications, internet, social media platforms, and email.
Minimum Junior-level college student at an accredited university at time of application (Senior-level and graduate students are encouraged to apply.) Ability to prioritize and handle a variety of assignments simultaneously.
Must be available to attend the AMSA 76th RMC in St. Paul, Minnesota, June 22-28, 2023. AMSA will cover all travel expenses.
Preferably have a background in (or working knowledge of) the meat and/or food industry.
Minimum 2.5 GPA.
