The Student Trainee will be placed in a Livestock, Poultry and Grain Market News (LPGMN) Office. The purpose of LPGMN is to furnish producers, buyers, and other interested members of the trade, as well as the consuming public, with a wide range of timely, accurate, and impartial information on supply, demand, movement, distribution, prices and price trends.

The duties described are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity.
The duties may include, but are not limited to:
Gathers data or preliminary research connected with assigned projects.
Collects and reviews a variety of technical data.
Evaluates information for validity and provides follow-up to any outliers.
Assists with the preparation of technical documents and prepares those documents for public dissemination.
Assists with the development, testing, and troubleshooting of internal and external user applications, configurations, and data reporting.
Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.

Complete at least 640 hrs of work experience prior to completion of degree.

Must be available to work a regular schedule when classes are in session as well as during scheduled breaks.
The work places no special demands on the employee. The work includes some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items such as books and supplies.
Most of the work is performed in an office setting; however, work may occasionally be performed at an auction market or livestock facility.
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement, including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
ELIGIBILITY: Students who are currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment on at least a half-time basis at a qualifying educational institution in a certificate, degree, or diploma program.
Applicants can qualify by meeting the EDUCATION requirements specified below.
EDUCATION: GS-4: Completion of 2 full academic years (60 semester or 90 quarter hours) of post-high school study or an associate's degree.
Upon graduation, you must meet the following education requirement to be eligible for conversion to a GS-5 position in the 1199 series:
Completion of 4 academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree.
Interns may be non-competitively converted to a term, career-conditional or career appointment within 120 days following successful completion of all of their educational and work experience requirements in accordance with 5 CFR 362.204.
The anticipated hours are 40 hours per week.
Housing and travel expenses will not be paid.
This Internship confers eligibility for a noncompetitive conversion to a permanent or term position in the competitive service contingent upon meeting all applicable Internship Program requirements and the needs of the agency. You will be considered for conversion to a permanent or term position upon the successful completion of your Internship. However, please note that eligibility for conversion does not guarantee the agency will opt for conversion.

If selected, official transcripts will be required prior to entrance on duty. Proof of enrollment or acceptance for the upcoming academic term or semester will also be required unless graduating in the current semester.
A Pathways Participant Agreement will be required if you are selected for a position. The agreement must be signed by all applicable parties prior to entrance on duty.
Student Interns must continue to meet the Pathways Program requirements throughout the duration of the appointment. Incumbents will be required to provide proof of continued enrollment and good standing each semester or grading period throughout the internship program. Failure to do so will result in termination of the appointment.
