The Assistant Manager, Export Services/Access is responsible for the coordination and development of the technical aspects supporting USMEF’s exporter members by expanding sales of new and established red meat items and processed products in the specific USMEF markets and regions. The Assistant Manager, Export Services/Access will provide assistance to other team members within the following four broad areas: (a) providing technical guidance and education to USMEF exporter members seeking new or continued access to selected export markets and acting as a liaison between the exporters and USDA on technical market access issues; (b) assisting USMEF exporter members with developing new business opportunities in export markets; (c) assisting other USMEF staff with recruiting members and reaching out to exporting companies; and (d) coordinate technical education initiatives in select markets and regions. Additional responsibilities include: follow-up with all Export Services staff projects, information management, and coordinating travel for veterinary teams/inspections, department projects and staff. Assist with industry needs, trouble shooting and training on export requirements and documentation.
Specific Responsibilities: Technical: • Support Export Services/Access staff in providing technical information and advice to USMEF exporter members regarding technical market information and technical market access issues in specific USMEF markets and regions • Develop and manage, with the help of USMEF staff, the delivery of technical education to exporters, buyers and government officials in domestic and international markets • Evaluate and understand the technical aspects of market access issues and develop options for resolving those issues under the direction of the Export Services/Access staff • Help identify opportunities for expanded sales of new and established red meat items (commodity and further processed) in export markets and work with USMEF exporter members to capitalize on these opportunities -Specific activities include training on international country requirements, product specifications, food safety, meat science and technology, packaging, and future product trends • Update, manage and communicate trade leads and other information in the Export Resources section on the USMEF website • Assist USMEF staff in expanding USMEF’s exporter membership and strengthening relations with exporter members • Staff support to USMEF Exporter Committee; develop Committee reports and meeting minutes • Travel as necessary, domestic and international
Program Coordination: • Coordinate international audit, technical and veterinary team visits • Manage and coordinate travel arrangements, secure translators, code expense sheets for final approval and draft summary reports • Maintain the department information files (MS Share Point) and USMEF web database (Supplier List) on all USMEF Exporter members • Responsible for coding expenses and other budgetary duties
• Advanced degree in meat/animal/food science, or a related field required; detailed knowledge of modern red meat packing and processing operations desired • Preferred 2-3 years’ work/professional experience • Familiar with U.S. government agencies, and/or red meat manufacturing/export sales/marketing/merchandizing helpful • Demonstrated ability to think and communicate clearly, both orally and in writing • Strong computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite • Ability to work effectively under pressure of tight deadlines, heavy workloads and multiple tasks • Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to a team approach • Culturally attuned; bilingual skills a plus; international exposure helpful
