The Department of Animal Science at Iowa State University is seeking applications for an Extension Program Specialist II who will serve the Meat Laboratory under the general supervision of Dr. Joseph Cordray, Professor and Extension Meat Specialist.
Responsibilities of this position include planning and conducting seminars, short courses, workshops, training sessions and industry meetings. Other responsibilities include the development and dissemination of educational materials related to meat science, meat technology, food safety and regulatory compliance. Significant participation in the Manufacturing Extension Partnerships Grant is expected, including working with Iowa meat processors on all aspects of their business. Duties further include one-on-one consultations with program attendees, meat industry clients and other interested parties, review of research projects, literature reviews, and development of grants for external funding.
The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills along with strong problem-solving capabilities. The candidate will also be a motivated self-starter with an ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a team made up of faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students and outside clientele. All department members are expected to interact collegially and in a professional manner and maintain the highest standards of integrity and ethics.
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and related experience.
