SUMMARY: This position will be responsible for: 1) working collaboratively, from experimental design through data analysis and reporting, to implement integrated research projects and 2) manage the R&D team resources for Triumph Foods. The person filling this role will report to and directly work with the Director, Meat Science. Interactions within the plant will include (but are not limited to): Operations, FSQA, Laboratory, IT, Management, and the USDA. This role will also include direct interaction with producers for specific projects. A qualified candidate will have experience in experimental design and implementation as well as data analysis. Candidate should also have experience in at least one statistical program (SAS, MATLAB, R, JMP). The RT Manager must be able to work as part of a team and coordinate research efforts with management and laboratory personnel.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position is responsible for supervising a group of personnel who perform somewhat identical and related tasks or activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
• Responsible for integrated product management and implementation, including, but not limited to:
o Participating in Experimental Design
o Protocol Creation with available resources
o Protocol Scheduling and Implementation
o Data Summary and Analysis in a statistical program
• Responsible for compilation, analysis, and reporting of results, including, but not limited to:
o Muscle Dissections/Yield Tests
o Meat and Adipose Tissue Quality
o AutoFOM and Telemetry
o Chemistry and/or microbiology protocols
• Validation of data
o Work with technicians to ensure that correct measurements are coming from the correct source
o Provide data to users
o Protect data integrity
• HACCP Plan Validation Testing
• SQF reporting, record keeping, etc.
• Liaison with producers, operations, food safety groups on research oriented projects
• Coordination of research projects and personnel needs with the laboratory manager
• Effectively supervise and work directly with staff of Research Technicians/Support

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: A M.S. degree in animal science/food science/genetics. Candidate must be computer literate (Excel, Word, Outlook) and capable of data analysis (SAS, MATLAB, R, or JMP) and interpretation. Demonstrated R&D skills, including using a pH meter, Minolta, thermometers, primal cuts, muscle dissection, problem solving, and decision making. Shows leadership potential as demonstrated through previous research, projects, and/or management responsibilities. Must be a detail-oriented, effective performer, who can operate within strict time lines and adapt to a fast-paced multi-task environment. Must be self-motivated, committed to performing quality work and able to work within a team environment. Looking for a responsible individual willing to complete tasks assigned without being asked numerous times and willing to take ownership of projects from start to completion. Is dedicated and willing to put forth the extra effort and time to accomplish duties. COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Possess the skill set to effectively and clearly communicate with others within and outside of the Company. Working knowledge of current industry processing practices/live production practices. Experience in data collection and analysis of data. Experience with writing macros for data interpretation in Excel. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents in the English language such as safety files, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must be able to effectively communicate with USDA, production and management personnel.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply mathematical applications to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to use computers and all standard programs used by the industry and the ability to learn and effectively use any and all other computer programs that are or will be made available.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to move about the facility. The employee is required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel/hold objects, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance; speak, hear, taste and smell. Employee may occasionally lift, push/pull up to forty (40) pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment would be a research type setting and time spent through the entire facility which would include climate extremes.
Hours of Work: Generally 9-10 or more hours/day as scheduled by management.
Days of Work: Normally Monday-Friday as scheduled by management and weekends if needed and approved by management.
